Development of an evidence rating scale for the New Zealand social sector

Year: 2016

Standards of evidence are rating scales against which evidence for the effectiveness of social interventions can be assessed. International best practice in the development and use of standards of evidence was reviewed, and follow-up work with Superu developed an evidence rating scale for New Zealand. The rating scale has been adopted for use in assessing the evidence supporting social investment budget bids in 2018.

Produced several guidance resources on evaluation and critical appraisal of research and evaluation evidence, tailored for policy, funding agency, and NGO (non-government organisation) staff. Superu will use these resources in their work on lifting the standards of research and evaluation in the New Zealand social sector.

Produced guidance materials on the evaluation of environmental policies, synthesising evaluation theory with state of the art techniques in environmental evaluation. The guidance was tailored for specialist and non-specialist audiences, and has been used by the Ministry as a reference document and an educational resource.
