Development of a mental health module for the New Zealand Health Survey
Developed a module for the New Zealand Health Survey that will measure key aspects of New Zealanders’ mental health and mental health service use. The module will be fielded in 2016/17, and will be New Zealand’s first measurement of population mental health since 2003.
For the Ministry of Health
This work involved:
- consultation with key internal and external stakeholders, and synthesis and reporting of the data needs that they identified
- a review of relevant literature, and identification of validated survey instruments that could meet needs and be achieved within a brief survey module
- presentation of the findings and recommendations to the New Zealand Health Survey’s Governance Group
- development of a first draft questionnaire, in collaboration with Ministry staff.
