This research project focused on the near-future challenges and opportunities for genomics in New Zealand and identified ways in which a national facility for genomics could help New Zealand to overcome challenges and make the most of opportunities.

This work involved:
- a stocktake of the existing genomics equipment, Bio-IT platforms, and bioinformatics and statistical genetics capabilities in New Zealand
- an estimation of NZGL’s share of the New Zealand genomics market
- a review of key documents, synthesising existing knowledge about genomics challenges and opportunities in New Zealand and overseas
- interviews with key informants to gather their insights into challenges, opportunities, and ways that a national facility for genomics could help.
